Distance/Duration: 12km / 3-3.5hrs

Height: 570m

Meeting Point: Crone Woods Car Park, Wicklow Way, Bahana, Co. Wicklow

Walk Start Time: Meet 09:20 to start walk 09:30

Further Info:  This is an easy hill walk

Leaders Note: This is a very pleasant easy hill walk (loop walk) starting off through Crone Woods, following a marked walk, mostly comfortable underfoot with its woodland trail.  We will pass the view of the Powerscourt Waterfall.  On leaving the woods, we head uphill to the summit (570 Metres).  This is stony underfoot so boots are more comfortable.  This part of the walk can be very windy and cold at this time of the year.  There are beautiful views of the surrounding hills at this part of the walk.  We descend by starting downhill at the back of the summit.  Again at this time of year this can be a little muddy underfoot for the first part.  Once we get back into Crone Woods we will take a break for a hot drink etc.  We will then walk back through a well-marked trail through the forest.

Please text the leader by Saturday 5th Feb by 3pm if you intend to go on the walk, providing your name and contact number.

Directions to Crone Woods: It’s best to allow 1 hour and 5 mins from Skerries.  Stay on M50 until it becomes N11.  Exit N11 at junction 8, signed Kilmacanogue.  You will see a Circle K petrol station.  Here they are in store bathroom facilities, which is the last bathroom stop before you get to Crone Woods.  Follow signs for R755 and then R760 (this is sign posted Enniskerry/Powerscourt.  This can be a popular road for cyclists so bear that in mind for timing your journey.

Please ensure that, at the very least, you have either hiking boots or walking shoes (no trainers) and depending on the weather forecast – multiple layers including a warm jacket/fleece, hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and trousers, a flask with a hot drink, sandwiches/snacks, a litre of water and a small rucksack.  If you are unsure about your gear, check with the leader a few days beforehand as anyone turning up with inadequate gear will not be permitted to walk.  Some might find a walking pole helpful on hikes.

It is highly recommended that you do not wear any clothing made from denim, corduroy and cotton on walks.

The club is a supporter of the ‘Leave No Trace’ campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the walking route.

Never go ahead of the Leader without being sure of the way and let the leader know if you are leaving the walk early.
