Hill Walk Cooley Mountains

Route Details:  Windy Gap – Foxes Rock – Ravens Rock – Eagle Rock – Slieve Foy – Tain Way

Distance/Duration: 14km / 5.5-6 hrs incl breaks

Height: Summit 589m; Total ascent 640m; decent 643m

Meeting Point:  Corrakit Windy Gap car park (Long Woman’s Grave)

Meeting/Walk start time: 10:15am / 10:30am

Leaders Note:   We commence our hike by walking along the track at the rear of the car park & begin the ascent to The Foxes Rock. From here we walk along the ridge passing The Ravens Rock, Eagles Rock & Slieve Foye where there are fantastic views of Carlingford Lough & the Mournes. The descent begins after Slieve Foye. A moderate descent before reaching part of the Tain Way followed by forest/farmtrack that leads back to the car park. A moderate hike; a good level of fitness is required.

NOTES

1. Walking poles recommended and depending on weather gaiters might be a good idea. No toilets or food/drink available at car park
2. There is some minor road walking towards the end of the hike (approx 800m)
