Route: Barnavave Loop (Red Trail)
Distance: 14km approx

Duration: 4 ½ to 5 hours including  breaks depending on group and weather conditions

Height: Summit 350m

THIS IS A HILLWALK – NOT A RAMBLE

Leader’s Note:

We will follow the Red Trail Barnavave Loop from Carlingford Village. Weather permitting we will get wonderful views of Carlingford Lough, Slieve Foye and Mourne Mountains.

Underfoot conditions will be a mixture of rocky/gravel track and grassy/muddy tracks.

There is a strong probability of wet/muddy sections on the route

Gaiters and Hiking Poles are advisable

Ascents and Descents generally gradual

Directions

 Take the M1 North. Take exit 18 signposted for N52, Dundalk and Carlingford. Take 4th  exit at Roundabout, cross over M1, take 2nd exit at next roundabout onto the R173 signposted for Carlingford. Continue along R173 and then R175 for approximately 18km. Turn Left onto R176 signposted for Carlingford. Continue for 3.5km approx. Tourist Office Carpark will be on your left.
