Hill Walk Dublin Mountains Cnoc na gCon

Meeting Point: Cruagh Wood car park O127225 (OSI Sheet 50 or East West Mapping Dublin and North Wicklow Mtns)

Route:  Cruagh Wood, Cruagh Mt 521m, Glendoo Mt 580m, Cloghnagun 557m

Distance: 10 KM

Height : Total ascent 550m aprox

Duration:   5 hours

Leader’s Note: The first part of the walk is uphill through the lovely Cruagh Wood. Leaving the wood we climb South over Cruagh Mountain and continue over peaty tracks to the featureless Glendoo Mountain.  As we descend into the coll over blanket bog there are views of Two Rock Mt to the North East and Glencree Valley and Kippure to the South West. Then we climb once again to the rocky tor of Cloghnagun or Cloch na gCon/ Rock of the Hound where we will have our lunch stop before retracing our route back to the start. Gaiters and sticks if used are recommended.

Directions from Skerries: Allow 50- 55 mins from Skerries. Take M50 Southbound, exit at Junction 12 Firhouse/R113, follow signs for Ballycullen. Right turn on to Scholarstown Rd, left Ballycullen Rd, straight through roundabout, turn right onto Kilakee Rd/ Old Military Rd/ R115, sharp left downhill on to Cruagh Rd, 950m to car park on the right. Extra parking is available at junction with Kilakee Rd if necessary.

Covid-19 related: Before the walk you will be asked to confirm that a)you have not been outside the country in the last 14 days,  b) you have no symptoms of Covid 19 (cough, fever, shortness of breath, loss of smell/taste) and c) you have not been in contact with any confirmed Covid 19 case or been told to isolate in the last 14 days.

General:

Leave No Trace: the club is a supporter of the Leave No Trace campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route

Clothing/Equipment: please ensure that, at the very least, you have either hiking boots or walking shoes (no trainers) and depending on weather forecast, multiple layers including a warm jacket/ fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, a flask with a hot drink, food, snacks and water.  If unsure about the required gear check with the walk leader in advance.
