This is an EASY HILLWALK – NOT a RAMBLE
Leader’s Note:
This is a lovely variation of the usual loop Cliff Walk that we do – starting off through Deerpark and over Muck Rock to the Bog of Frogs, then over across the Ben of Howth to the Summit. A short distance from there we will visit the restored WW2 ‘Eire 6’ neutrality sign (one of 83 aerial recognition signs built around the Irish coast during the Second World War to alert aircraft that they were approaching neutral Irish territory). From there we will join the Cliff Path back to Howth. At the end of the walk we will visit Ye Olde Hurdy Gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio in the Martello Tower near the East Pier (entrance fee: €3 – group rate) – a fascinating museum of all things radio and communications (see link below for the history of the tower and its place in communication since Napoleonic times when it was built in 1805).

We will meet at Skerries Train Station at 08.40 a.m. to catch the 08.52 a.m. train to Malahide, then DART to Howth Junction and DART to Howth, arriving at 09.38 a.m. Alternatively plenty of free car parking beside Howth West Pier for anybody who wishes to drive there. A nice coffee in Beshoffs on the West Pier before heading off on the walk at 10.15 a.m. Refreshments and lunch at the end of the walk in the Bloody Stream for those who wish to relax after it. Note: no sandwich stop along the way. Plenty of afternoon DARTs/trains to get back to Skerries from Howth.
Please text leader John Coleman by Monday 10th June if you intend going on the walk and whether meeting up in Skerries or Howth, along with mob. phone no. for contact.
