Hill Walk Lugnaquilla

Hill Walk (Moderate)

Meeting Point: Fenton’s Pub Imaal Bar and Lounge – Beside the statue of rebel leader and United Irishman Michael Dwyer.

Driving Directions:  Can be found here using google maps .  Allow 1.5 hours from Skerries.

Meeting Time: 09:50         Walk Start Time: 10:00

Route: We will approach Lug from the west side – Glen of Imaal.  The trail starts along L8325 and leads you on a steady ascent up Lugnaquilla via Camarahill, following the Camarahill- Lugnaquilla path to the summit

 Distance : approx. 13.83 km

Height:  Summit 925 m; Total Ascent 745 m; Total Descent 743 m

Duration:   Approx 5.5 hours 

Please Text the leader by Friday 17th if you intend going on the walk. 

Leader’s Note:  Lug Stands at 925m, Lugnaquilla (Log na Coille, hollow of the wood‘) Highest summit in Leinster and the highest mountain top in Ireland outside Kerry. On a clear day you can see all of the Wicklow Mountains and as far as the Dublin and south Leinster Hills.  

Park at spaces adjacent to Fentons’s pub near the army base at Seskin. If no parking at Fenton’s just turn up the lane beside the statue of rebel leader and United Irishman Michael Dwyer, where more parking spaces can be found.  

The peak is very exposed, so proper layering is needed.

General:

Leave No Trace: the club is a supporter of the Leave No Trace campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route.

Clothing/Equipment: please ensure that, at the very least, you have either hiking boots or walking shoes (no trainers) and depending on weather forecast, multiple layers including a warm jacket/ fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, a flask with a hot drink, food, snacks, and water. Sun cream, Plenty of water and insect repellent! If unsure about the required gear or your ability to undertake the walk, please check with the walk leader in advance.  The peak is very exposed, so proper layering is needed.  Walking poles are highly recommended.
