This walk is a circular route around the perimeter of the Kilbride Rifle Range which is marked by granite blocks “WD“.  We start at the gates of the army camp (parking both sides of the road) and walk SW along the road to Kippure forest.  Then we climb by the edge of the forest out to open mountain to our first peak Seefin 622m with its Megalithic five chamber tomb, then NE to Seefingan 726m which has a collapsed Megalithic tomb and N to Corrig 616m and finally NW to Seehan 647m which is said to have several megalithic tombs.  We descend through a Coillte forest and back to the cars along the road.  Leave approx. an hour from Skerries.  Some steep climbing and boggy wet ground in places.  Full gear advised.  No toilet facilities near the start of the walk.

Directions from Skerries:  From M50 exit at Junction 12 and follow R113 in the direction of Firhouse passing through two small roundabouts.  At the next major junction (Old Bawn Shopping Centre) turn left onto R114 in the direction of Bohernabreena.  After approx. 4km turn left on to L7462 (you will see an old papal cross just after the turn).  Continue for approx. 3.75 km to the gates of Kilbride Army Camp Grid Ref: O 065178 or open this Google link on your phone: https://goo.gl/maps/X2t4NpMwetg7ceXt8  and Select “Directions”

Further information:

Please ensure that, at the very least, you have either hiking boots or walking shoes (no trainers), and depending on the weather forecast – multiple layers including a warm jacket/fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket and trousers, a flask with a hot drink, sandwiches/snacks, a litre of water and a small rucksack.  If you are unsure about your gear check with the leader a few days beforehand as anyone turning up with inadequate gear will not be permitted to walk.  Some might find a walking pole to help on this hike.

It is highly recommended that you do not wear any clothing made from denim, corduroy and cotton on the hike.

The club is a supporter of the ‘Leave No Trace’ campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route.

Never go ahead of the Leader without being sure of the way and let the leader know if you are leaving the walk early.
