This is an EASY HILLWALK – NOT a RAMBLE

1) Please ensure that, at the very least, you have hiking boots/shoes (no trainers), and
depending on the weather forecast – multiple layers including a warm jacket/fleece,
hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket and trousers, snacks, water and a small rucksack.
If you are unsure about your gear check with the leader a few days beforehand as
anyone turning up with inadequate gear will not be permitted to walk.
2) It is highly recommended that you do not wear any clothing made from
DENIM/CORDUROY/COTTON on the hike.
3) The club is a supporter of the Leave No Trace campaign so please ensure that you
leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route.
4) NEVER go ahead of the Leader without being sure of the way!

Please ensure you bring your own face mask, hand sanitiser and gloves on walk (in the event of an emergency when 2m social distancing is not possible). Please do not car-pool with others outside your household. Please observe 2 metre social distancing at all times on walk. Walk is limited to Skerries Walking Club members only.

Leader’s Note:
This is a very pleasant Easy Hillwalk along the Dublin Mountains Way (combination
of roadway and forest tracks) from Shankill Village via the Ballycorus Lead Mines to
The Scalp, with its commanding view, and return with great vistas along the way, inc.
the fantastic 360° panoramic view from Carrickgollogan Hill (276m). Total walk
time, including a quick pit stop at The Scalp, is likely to be about 3.5 hours. Note:
Poles would be useful for two short stretches of the walk.

We will meet at Skerries Train Station to catch the 08.57 train to Connolly, then the
09.44 DART to Shankill, arriving 10.22. A 12 min. walk from the Station to the
Village for a takeaway coffee from Brady’s Pub Off Licence before heading off from
their car park on the walk. Pint and food at the end of the walk in Brady’s for those
who wish to relax after it. NB No sandwich required as going for a bite to eat after the
walk. For anyone wishing to drive – there is a large car park at Brady’s, Shankill from
where the walk starts and ends.
Return train times:
