Ramble Baltray to Port Oriel

Walk : Baltray, Co Louth  to Port Oriel-Clogherhead Harbour and return.

Meeting Point: 19th Hole Pub Baltray, Co Louth.

Walk Start Time: 11.00am 

Route: Beach approx 15km and then a small climb over the hill to the harbour @ Port Oriel 

Distance: approx. 18KM

Height : approx 160m

Duration:   5.5 hours approx including breaks

Please Text the leader by night before if you intend going on the walk

Leader’s Note: No need for sticks or gaiters boots are advised as beach can be wet. It will be low tide.

The Sea Louth Passport will guide you to 14 Coastal Scenic Viewpoints      along the trail. Each scenic viewpoint has a unique illustrated stamp for you to collect and add to your passport. On this walk these can be collected in Baltray, Clogherhead and Port Oriel.

​You do not need to have the Sea Louth Passport to come on the walk, however if you are interested pick up your free passport from one of the tourist offices in Drogheda, Dundalk or Carlingford .

I will also add more walks on the Louth Coast in the coming months. 

Bring a sandwich to enjoy in the open air at Port Oriel Harbour at approx 1.30 Takeaway Coffee, Chowder and Prawn Cocktails are available. There is no indoor seating. There is also a public toilet.

General:

Leave No Trace: the club is a supporter of the Leave No Trace campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route

Clothing/Equipment: please ensure that, at the very least, you have either hiking boots or walking shoes (no trainers) and depending on weather forecast, multiple layers including a warm jacket/ fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, a flask with a hot drink, food, snacks and water. 

 If unsure about the required gear or your ability to undertake the walk please check with the walk leader in advance.
