 1) Please ensure that, at the very least, you have walking shoes (no trainers), multiple layers including a warm jacket/fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket and trousers, a flask with a hot drink, sandwiches/snacks, a litre of water and a small rucksack. If you are unsure about your gear check with leader a few days beforehand as anyone turning up with inadequate gear will not be permitted to walk.

2) It is highly recommended that you do not wear any clothing made from DENIM/CORDUROY/COTTON on the hike.

3) The club is a supporter of the ‘Leave No Trace’ campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route.

4) NEVER go ahead of the Leader without being sure of the way.

 Leader’s Note:

We last did this walk in Aug. 2018. So it is well nigh time to do it again! It is a very pleasant 14km/3.5 – 4 hr Easy Ramble with a loop route from Ashtown Visitors Centre over to the Papal Cross, down to the Magazine Fort, across by the cricket grounds to the Tea Rooms, around the People’s Flower Gardens and across to the Wellington Monument, out of the park and into the War Memorial Gardens, along the Liffey to Chapelizod, back into the Park and return to Ashtown Visitors Centre via the Furry Glen Pond and the Ordnance Survey. Hopefully we might have a close encounter with the deer as has happened on previous Phoenix Park walks.

Note: only Parkgate and Castleknock gates are open to traffic. Toilet facilities are open at the Ashtown Visitors Centre. Bring a sandwich for a pit stop along the way.

Please email or text leader John Coleman by Tues. 14th July if interested in going on the walk as places are limited due to Covid-19 restrictions and will be on a first come, first served basis (no Guests allowed at present unfortunately).
