Welcome to Skerries Walking Club

Skerries Walking club was formed in 2017 with a view to providing a Club within the town to cater for people who wanted to walk as an organised activity. The primary objective of the Club is to facilitate and increase the enjoyment of walking and mountaineering activities by members of the Club. Local walks, rambles and hill walks are all part of the Club’s activities. The Club currently has around ninety members of varying ages and is open to new members who wish to join. There is a Walks Programme which is developed as the year progresses and provides a variety of walks to suit all types of walker.

Walks continue all year round, whether they are local walks which take place in Ardgillan Demesne or around Skerries itself, or whether they are rambles or hill walks. The emphasis is on providing a variety of walk types in varying locations. The length and duration of walks depends on the walk leader and each leader brings their particular emphasis and style to each walk.

Rambles and hill walks will include a lunch stop (you bring your own packed lunch) and may include a visit to a local coffee shop or pub as part of the social side of the Club’s activities.

Even though the Club is relatively recently formed, it had its first Weekend Away in the Slieve Bloom  mountains in May 2019. It is expected that weekends away will form a regular part of the Club’s activities into the future.

Walking Moments 2018-19

Here is a video of our some of our walks during 2018-19. It will give a flavour of the type of walks that we do and allow you to experience some of the beautiful countryside that we have had the privilege to visit.

It takes in parts of the Mourne, Wicklow and Slieve Bloom mountains as well as costal and canal rambles.
