THIS IS A HILLWALK – NOT A RAMBLE

1) Please ensure that, at the very least, you have either hiking boots or walking shoes (no trainers), and depending on the weather forecast – multiple layers including a warm jacket/fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket and trousers, a flask with a hot drink, sandwiches/snacks, a litre of water and a small rucksack. If you are unsure about your gear check with leader a few days beforehand as anyone turning up with inadequate gear will not be permitted to walk.

2) It is highly recommended that you do not wear any clothing made from DENIM/CORDUROY/COTTON on the hike.

3) The club is a supporter of the ‘Leave No Trace’ campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route.

4) NEVER go ahead of the Leader without being sure of the way!

Leader’s Note:

This is a very pleasant undulating MODERATE HILLWALK through Cruagh Wood, taking in Cruagh Mountain (521m) with lovely views, then via Massy’s Wood to the Hell Fire Club and back around by Montpelier Hill. There are two short slightly steep stretches (in Massy’s Wood and up to the Hell Fire Club) where walking poles could be useful. The walk starts and finishes at Tibradden Wood (Pine Forest) Car Park (Zipit Forest Adventures). Total walk time, inc. sandwich stop at the Hell Fire Club, will be 5 hours.

Please email or text John Coleman by Sat. 4th Dec. if you intend going on the walk along with mob. phone number for contact.

Directions from M50:

Turn off the M50 at Jnc. 12. Take  R113 towards Ballyboden. At the 3rd roundabout turn right onto the R116 (Edmonstown Rd.) signposted for Glencullen. Follow the R116 for approx. 4.5km until the R116 turns sharp left, heading for Glencullen. The entrance to Tibradden Wood is on your left, approx. 200m after the sharp left turn.

Journey time from Skerries: 50 minutes.

Covid-19 related: Walkers are advised that they will be asked to confirm that they have no Covid-19 like symptoms and agree to walk at their own risk.  The organisers cannot accept any liability in the event of injury/Covid-19 infection.

For ease of communication and updates a WhatsApp group will be set up for this walk. If you do not wish to be included in this WhatsApp group please let the leader know when you get in touch to book your place.
