Leader’s Note:

We will head north out of Carlingford Village (Map: OSI Sheet 36) or ( EastWest Cooley Map) to join the Badger’s Pad. This will take us on a loop back through the forest to join the Red Trail Barnavave Loop (southern portion ) in an anti-clockwise direction. The loop follows tarmac roads, grassy tracks, forest tracks and mountain paths to the summit of Barnavave passing through the deserted village on the descent. There is a steep ascent through the forest close to the start of the walk to where we join the Red Trail. Therefore I would consider this hillwalk to be more moderate than easy. Weather permitting there are wonderful views of Carlingford Lough, Slieve Foye and the Mourne Mountains.

I reserve the right for safety or weather reasons to adjust the route on the day.
