Leader’s Note:
We start our walk at the Carrick Little Walkers Car Park, up the lane on the left-hand side. The car park charge for the day is £3.50/€5 (bring cash) and there are toilet facilities on site. Note – the café is closed. We start at the base of Slieve Binnian taking an anti-clockwise route circular to the Summit. Passing the Annalong Wood on our right and passing close to the Blue Lough and up to a viewing point looking over Ben Crom Reservoir. From here we will have a climb to the North Tor which is a monstrous outcrop of granite. We continue our ascent passing some smaller tors. We then get to a break on the Mourne wall and go through and veer right and continue to the Summit. At the Summit there are fantastic panoramic views with the Silent Valley Reservoir on the right. After a break at the Summit we will start our descent keeping the Mourne Wall to our right until we get to the car park. The descent is tricky and challenging in places particularly at the start of the descent, so we will take our time, and hiking poles will be very useful in helping with our descent.
