Leader’s Note:  The views are breathtaking.

As you make your way up the actual climb the lowlands of east Wicklow are being revealed off to the left ahead and if it is a clear day the Irish Sea will soon brilliantly reflect the sun.  In good visibility the hills of Wales can be seen as a blue-grey ripple on the sea horizon, while in the foreground the Sugarloaf and the reservoirs at Roundwood are prominent.  To the south all the main summits of Wicklow are in view, including Lugnaquillia, while to the west and north are ranged a wonderful sea of rounded brown mountains.
