Hill Walk (Easy) Black Linn Loop

Walk: Easy hillwalk loop. Black Linn Loop, (Red arrows)
Meeting Point: Howth Public Car Park, West Pier
Meeting Time: 9.00am
Walk Start Time: 9.15
Route: Howth Black Linn Red Loop, including Bailey headland. We will start the walk at the public car park on the west pier, walking towards the east pier (where there are toilet facilities available). We have an initial climb to start the walk up past Balscadden beach, following the red arrows. When we reach the steps towards the summit carpark, we will continue to the Bailey headland. We will go clockwise on the path towards the entrance to the light house. We then will take the road to the point where we join the route back to the summit carpark.
From the carpark we will head down the road to the Summit Inn. We will turn left onto Thormanby Road, taking a right and following a path to Carrickbrack Road. We will cross Carrickbrack Road and follow another path to Windgate Road. We will turn right onto Windgate Road and then turn right onto the hill. We will follow the track to the masts on the Ben of Howth. On a clear day there are views to the Mournes and south to Wicklow. We will continue on the Red route to continue along the old tram line back into Howth opposite the Dart Station.

Leader’s Note: This is an easy hillwalk on hard core path as well as footpath. We will have two short stops at Bailey and the Masts.

General:
Leave No Trace: the club is a supporter of the Leave No Trace campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route
Clothing/Equipment: please ensure that, at the very least, you have either hiking boots or walking shoes (no trainers) and depending on weather forecast, multiple layers including a warm jacket/ fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, a flask with a hot drink, food, snacks and water.
