Leader’s Note: We last did this hillwalk in September 2023 and it is always a popular easy hillwalk mostly on tracks with a small section of ascent on a stony gulley path and open terrain.  We’ll meet at 9am in Kilamshogue Forest car park (Rathfarnham), it can get busy after 9am with no parking available.  We will ascend through the forest on a well-made track, making our way to Three Rock, passing the telecommunication masts.  These masts can be seen from Dublin and Howth on a clear day.  Once we leave the forest, we make our way to Fairy Castle on a stony gulley path. Two Rock is the highest point of the group of hills in the Dublin Mountains.  Fairy Castle is a Bronze Age cairn on the summit of Two Rock Mountain and is known to be a collapsed passage tomb. We will then make our way back to Kilmasogue Forest.  This walk has lots of variety and cover parts of both the Wicklow Way and Dublin Mountain Way.  Throughout the walk there are stunning views of North County Dublin, Howth, Wicklow and Dublin city.  Please wear hiking/trekking shoes (runners are not suitable) and you may find walking poles useful once we make our way from the forest up towards Fairy Castle on the stony gulley path.

WhatsApp: For ease of communication a WhatsApp group will be set up for the group coming on this walk for updates and sharing of photographs.   If you do not wish to be included please let the leader know when registering your interest in the walk.
