Ramble Slane to Navan

Walk : Riverside walk on the banks of the River Boyne from Slane Co Meath to Navan.

Meeting Point:  Conyngham Arms Hotel, Slane, Co Meath. 

Walk Start Time: 10.00AM

Route: We take the river bank which is a bit of a jungle from Slane to Stackallen (approx 2hrs) after lunch on the riverside at Stackallen we continue along a purpose built gravel track to Navan. 

Distance: 14 KM

Height: Level no gradient

Duration:   4.5 to 5 hours plus  breaks

Leader’s Note: This is an easy walk with a half km downhill to the Boyne but no rise. As usual boots are required and sticks are advisable, if it is wet the first section will be very muddy. Shorts are not advisable as this section is overgrown with nettles and long grass. There are no known issues with the second section.

Directions from Skerries: Take the M1 north towards Drogheda, cross the Mary Mc Aleese Toll Bridge and take Junction 10 for the N51 left towards Slane/Navan.

Approx time 40min.  Parking at present is free.

There are no restaurants, no coffee shops and no toilets (but lots of cover) this is completely out doors.

Return to Slane: from Abbey Rd, Navan by Bus Eireann 190 bus to Slane Village/Drogheda. Buses leave Abbey Rd Navan @

General:

Leave No Trace: the club is a supporter of the Leave No Trace campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route

Clothing/Equipment: please ensure that, at the very least, you have either hiking boots or walking shoes (no trainers) and depending on weather forecast, multiple layers including a warm jacket/ fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, a flask with a hot drink, food, snacks and water. 

 If unsure about the required gear or your ability to undertake the walk please check with the walk leader in advance.
