THIS IS A RAMBLE

1) Please ensure that, at the very least, you have good walking shoes (no trainers), and depending on the weather forecast – multiple layers including a warm jacket/fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket and trousers, snacks, a litre of water and a small rucksack. If you are unsure about your gear check with the leader a few days beforehand as anyone turning up with inadequate gear will not be permitted to walk.

2) It is highly recommended that you do not wear any clothing made from DENIM/CORDUROY/COTTON on the walk.

3) The club is a supporter of the ‘Leave No Trace’ campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the walk route.

4) NEVER go ahead of the Leader without being sure of the way!

Before the walk you will be asked to confirm a) you have not been outside the country in the last 14 days, b) you have no symptoms of Covid-19, c) you have not been in contact any confirmed case of Covid-19 or have been told to self-isolate in the last 14 days. Please ensure you bring your own face mask, hand sanitiser and gloves on walk (in the event of an emergency when 2m social distancing is not possible). Please do not car-pool with others outside your household. Please observe 2 metre social distancing at all times on walk. The walk is limited to members of Skerries Walking Group.

Directions from Skerries:

Take the M1, M50 (to end), then M11 and N11. Continue on the N11 and turn off at Junction 8 – signposted Roundwood / Kilmacanogue (exit immediately after the service station).  Go up the slip road and at the roundabout take the 3rd exit taking the bridge back over the motorway, at the small roundabout (at Plucks) turn left onto the R755. Continue on the R755 for 14 km from there to Roundwood. Skerries to Roundwood – 1 hr 15 mins. The Coach House is on the left hand side in the centre of the Village.

Leader’s Note:

This is a really lovely walk around the Upper and Lower Vartry Reservoirs, with a combination of woodland trails, paths and quiet country roads, passing by the water treatment plant that supplies 80 million litres of potable water daily to large areas of Dublin, North Wicklow and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown. It is a loop walk – starting and finishing in Roundwood, with an ‘opt out’ half way around at 10 km distance. We will have coffee & scones in The Coach House, Roundwood for those who want to relax a while after the walk.  NB Bring a sandwich for a ‘pit stop’ along the way taking in the views.

Please text or email joint leader John Coleman  by Friday 21st Aug. if you intend going on the walk.
