Ramble Malahide Portmarnock

THIS IS OUR CHRISTMAS SOCIAL RAMBLE!

Route: Malahide Train Station, Malahide Village, Robswall, Velvet Strand, Portmarnock, Golf Links Road, Portmarnock Train Station

Distance: 9-12km approx

Ascent: 60m

Duration: 3 hours approx

Leader’s Note:  This is a RAMBLE not a hillwalk.

 Meet at Skerries Train Station at 09:05 for 09:16 Train to Connolly Station disembarking at Malahide at 09:31. Our ramble begins at Malahide train station at 09:40. We will walk along the coastal path towards Portmarnock, taking a detour through Robswall. There is a rise of 30m which we give us some lovely views, weather permitting, of Lambay Island, Howth Head and Ireland’s Eye. We will return to the coastal path and continue to the Velvet Strand, where we can have a cuppa at the shelter. We will walk along the beach, across the golf links, and approach Portmarnock village via Golf Links Road. We can stop in Portmarnock village for refreshments at either Il Panorama Café or O’Dwyers Bar and Grill, then on to Portmarnock Station to catch a  train back to Skerries.

 

Trains leaving Portmarnock  for Skerries on Sunday 29th December are at 12:31, 13:30, 14:23, 15:30, 16:30, 17:30.

 Please text leader, Máire Jones by Saturday 29th December, if you intend going on the walk indicating meeting point (Skerries Station, or Malahide Station).  Please include your mobile number.

  1) Please ensure that, at the very least, you have good walking shoes (no trainers), multiple layers including a warm jacket/fleece, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket and trousers, a flask with a hot drink, sandwiches/snacks, a litre of water and a small rucksack. If you are unsure about your gear check with leader a few days beforehand as anyone turning up with inadequate gear will not be permitted to walk.

2) It is highly recommended that you do not wear any clothing made from DENIM/CORDUROY/COTTON.

3) The club is a supporter of the ‘Leave No Trace’ campaign so please ensure that you leave no litter (of any sort) on the hike route.

4) The leader reserves the right to change the walk location and route depending on weather conditions/turnout on the day.
